Self-Examination (Part 34)
Mouth: Your Ambassador
Now all things are of God, Who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us.
2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (NKJV)
Since 'Our citizenship is heaven' (Philippians 3:20), but we're now positioned on planet earth; since earth's insiders are God's outsiders, but we're commissioned to liaise with them;* since broadcasting Good News is our purpose, but Good News is scarcely available, we're called to live as Christ's ambassadors.**
Since Jesus witnessed dirty politics, but He never criticized governments; since He suffered and died in evil times, but He rose above generals and kings; since we witness dirty politics, too, but we're ordered against condemnation; since Jesus ascended into heaven, we've been assigned to speak on His behalf.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: The part of 2 Corinthians 5 that penetrates my complacency is when God says He's pleading through us. Could the Maker of heaven and earth want us enough to plead for our lives? Love us enough to die for our sins? Trust us enough to speak through our mouths?
Therefore, think of this critical role as bigger than Hollywood's best role; more important than any casting you'll ever attend this side of heaven; more urgent than getting on Broadway or signing a recording contract; more pressing than a major cover or starring in a national tour. Guess what? You already got the part.
So study His Lines and act Them out. Be kind, wise and loving--like He was. Be a lifeline to men--like He was. A bright crown awaits your finale, and Oscar can't begin to compare.
To Be Continued...
* 'Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone' (Colossians 4:5-6).
