Do-Gooders (Part 67)
Remember God's Work
Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up?
Matthew 16:9-10 (NKJV)
What a remarkable memory lapse: The Lord's chosen, beloved disciples, the ones who walked by His side for three years, forgot the miracles they eye-witnessed.* They also forgot His Words predicting His persecution and resurrection. Therefore, when Mary said He had risen, Christ's closest friends just couldn't believe it.
'Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene... And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe' (Mark 16:9-11).
Because truth transcends the ordinary, because God's work isn't ordinary, because Satan hurls doubts toward our minds, because these doubts seem reasonable... we can dismiss or forget God's wonders. We begin to view them as fairy tales instead of the glorious evidence of His extraordinary performance.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: You can overcome forgetfulness by consistently remembering. Don't let the enemy brainwash you with his skeptical observations or an endless stream of distractions. Stay deep in God's Word, prayer and kin. His Great River of Living Water will wash away Satan's pollution.
'Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on It day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in It. Then you will be prosperous and successful' (Joshua 1:8).
'Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God' (Job 37:14).
'Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up' (Deuteronomy 6:7).
